FARMING GOD’S WAY

FarminG GOD’S WAY – An Incredible Training Experience

At Eco Balance, we are lucky enough to get to experience some truly incredible opportunities in the gardening industry. We recently attended a 3-day training session called “Farming God’s Way”, which was the most incredible program. We felt so inspired after our training and we’re super excited to share more about Farming God’s Way and our experience with you all in this blog post.

About Farming God’s Way

Of all the continents in the world, Africa is the most poverty-stricken. We have over 750 million subsistence farmers, whose crop yields are insufficient to provide for their families, which means they live undernourished and degraded lives. These numbers are increasing each year, and this is where Farming God’s Way aims to make a difference. Started in 1984 by Brian Oldreive on a farm in Zimbabwe, Farming God’s Way has since spread into many countries in Africa and other parts of the world.

The initiative is a tool for equipping and empowering the poor to help themselves through improved farming techniques, management and technology.  As their name suggests, Farming God’s Way also teaches 6 major biblical keys that help with unlocking the potential of both the land and the people who live on it:

  • Acknowledging God and God alone

  • Consider your ways

  • Understanding God’s all-sufficiency

  • What you sow you will reap

  • Bring the tithes and offerings to God

  • Stake your claim

Our Experience

We spent 3 days completing an In-Field Monitoring training session at the Umhali All Saints Church grounds. The main reason we were interested in attending the course was to learn how to make our own compost from materials on hand. After a training and orientation session, we got to work and the course did not disappoint. We had a fantastic time getting our hands dirty on the practical training day and built our own compost pile . It was an experience we will never forget and best of all, we are able to now take the concepts into our work and communities.
