5 Creative and green ways to celebrate with your family
You might be questioning what a landscaping and garden services company has to do with celebrating; well the answer is short and sweet.
Everything.
Nature and celebrations go hand-in-hand- it’s hard not to incorporate the two. We believe that it’s time to get back into our gardens and let the celebrations begin! So we want to share 5 easy, green, and COVID safe ways to celebrate differently this year.
1. Bring the outside inside
A biodiverse garden will be bursting with seasonal flora- make use of it!
Create your own flower arrangements and put them on display. These floral delights can be made of ANYTHING: flowers (of course), greenery, herbs, small and leafy branches, dried twigs, and even grasses!
Keep it simple, they don’t have to be perfect because they are already special- picked from your garden for you and your family to enjoy.
2. Let nature invade your table
Use garden treasures to decorate your table
– a sprig of rosemary (or any other branch ) tied with twine makes a refreshing and rustic serviette holder
– Using pressed flowers. (see no. 5) make name tags for where each person will be sitting- this is a special and thoughtful touch to any meal or event.
– Use your home-garden sourced flower bouquets to add colour and greenery to your setting.
3. Don’t put a lockdown on flavour
Celebrations are synonymous with GOOD FOOD. You might think that nothing could improve your favourite dish more, but we say there is always room for nature to invade.
Invest in a well-planned and landscaped herb garden-with our help you could add fresh herbs to savoury dishes and mint leaves to any delicious dessert. Show off your green fingers at any moment whilst cooking.
4. Dried power
From your amazing herb garden, take some of your favourites like Rosemary and Thyme and dry them!
-
Pick a bunch of your chosen herb
-
Use string to tie the bunch together by their stem
-
Hang the bunch stem-side up
-
Keep in a sunny and dry place
-
Wait 2- 3 weeks for your herbs to be completely dried
-
Store in an airtight container
-
Let the flavour enhancement begin!
We also love the idea of drying lavender the same way. Dried lavender could be used to disperse a beautiful fragrance around your home or as dried bouquets used for décor or keepsake purposes.
5. Forever memories
And Lastly- Why not turn your flower bouquet or green décor into lifetime reminders?
-
Press flowers and/or foliage between 2 pieces of wax wrap/ parchment paper
-
Slide it between the pages of a heavy book or under a weight
-
After a month your flora should be pressed and dried to perfection
Now you can transfer your dried memories to pieces of paper as invites, cards, or even name tags. You could also frame your floral keepsake and add it to your array of green decor.
So how is the Eco Balance family celebrating differently?
Well, we are ditching plastic, faux table decorations like fake flower bouquets and engaging in freshly picked flowers and plants from our surroundings. We are choosing to use what we have on our doorstep to enhance the flavours of our festive food. And of course, we are using nature to spend time with our close family; not only because it’s covid safer but because being outside, sitting in a well Eco Balance landscaped garden has the ability to make family time more special and valuable.
We’ll be sharing some great tips and tricks on our social media pages for flower arranging and table décor -in the meantime, you can also contact our team at Eco Balance Landscaping should you want to embark on the adventure of having a herb and/or veggie garden.
